Taiwan 3 Cover_RGB

I self-published my first book Keeping Up With The War God in 2001. Bradley Winterton of Taipei Times called it, “the best account of life in Taiwan I know, and by quite a long chalk.” A second edition ebook was published in 2010.

That same year saw publication of my second and third books. Dos and Don’ts of Taiwan is an illustrated guide to cultural etiquette issued by Bangkok-based iGroup Press. A far weightier project (the word count was quadruple that of Dos and Don’ts) was the first edition of Taiwan: The Bradt Travel Guide for UK-based Bradt Travel Guides. The second edition appeared in 2014. The third edition came out in mid-2019, and the cover is shown here.

Much of 2017 was devoted to researching and writing A Culinary History of Taipei: Beyond Pork and Ponlai, a food history that goes well beyond Taiwan’s capital city, working with a Taiwanese co-author. The book was published by Rowman & Littlefield in October 2018 and reviewed by Taipei Times here.
